The Danville volleyball team displayed determination in its second match of the season on Tuesday night. Despite losing in straight sets to host Fredericktown, the team exhibited signs of improvement that head coach Morgan Spitler believes will soon yield positive results.
According to Spitler, Danville’s attack was spearheaded by juniors Kyla Kidwell and Zoey Neitzelt, who each contributed five kills. Setter Kenzi Staats facilitated the offense with 12 assists and also recorded 11 digs. The Blue Devils’ defense was bolstered by their back row, which amassed 38 team digs, providing several opportunities to shift momentum.
Spitler noted that the challenge lay not in talent but in timing. “Momentum wasn’t on our side early on, and that’s something we need to address — either by striking first or learning how to dig ourselves out when we’re behind,” she said. Spitler emphasized that it is only the second game of the season and there is no cause for alarm. “That’s the beauty of volleyball — it’s a ‘next point, next game’ kind of sport. We’ll regroup, come back stronger and show the level of volleyball we’re capable of.”
Danville (0-2) will return home Thursday for its opener against Northmor, where the Blue Devils aim to convert their progress into their first victory.
