The Danville Blue Devils opened their 2025 season in commanding fashion Friday night, grinding out a 35-13 road victory over Worthington Christian behind a punishing ground game and relentless defense.
From the outset, Danville’s plan was clear: wear down the Warriors with physical football. The Blue Devils executed with precision, rushing 45 times for 279 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 122 yards and another score through the air.
Running back Cyren Wallace set the tone, carrying the ball 24 times for 187 yards and three touchdowns. Wallace also contributed as a receiver, hauling in four passes for 29 yards to finish with 216 total yards. Quarterback Nolan Ridgway added balance, throwing for 122 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 25 more. He also handled special teams, hitting a PAT and averaging 49.5 yards per punt.
On the perimeter, Wesley Payne proved dangerous, collecting three receptions for 33 yards, two punt returns for 33 yards, and a critical interception on defense. The Blue Devils’ defense was suffocating, holding Worthington Christian to just 40 rushing yards on 17 attempts and forcing three interceptions.
Despite a marathon contest stretching over three hours, Danville’s depth and determination took over in the second half. The Blue Devils dominated the trenches, grinding down the Warriors until the final whistle.
Now 1-0, Danville turns its attention to its home opener against Utica on Friday, carrying momentum and confidence from a statement win.
