Danville’s volleyball team secured a significant victory on Saturday night, defeating Lucas 3-0 in an away match.
According to the team’s statistics, the Blue Devils (7-9) executed a well-rounded performance with 11 aces, 33 kills, 33 assists, five blocks, and 60 digs. Kayley Sheldon led the defense with 16 digs while also contributing two aces and three assists. Zoey Neitzelt made contributions on both ends of the court with three aces, eight kills, seven digs, and four blocks. Brookelynn Carter added nine kills and seven digs.
For head coach Morgan Spitler, this win held special significance as it took place in the gym where she once competed as a student-athlete at Lucas. “Some wins just mean more—and this was one of them,” Spitler said. “Last year, we walked away with a tough loss, but this year, we came back with a chip on our shoulder and something to prove.”
Spitler said that the team rallied around each other before the final set and dedicated their effort to her. “They played not just for themselves but for each other as one big, united team,” she said. “Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.”
Danville is set to continue its season next week in conference play against Loudonville.
