The Danville volleyball team commenced its season with a victory over Newcomerstown on August 23 at Danville High School, winning the match in four sets.
According to the match details, the Blue Devils started strong, achieving a 25-6 win in the first set. Newcomerstown managed to level the match, but Danville regained control and won the next two sets, resulting in a 3-1 victory. Avery Mezie led Danville’s offense with 10 kills, a block, and a dig. Zoey Neitzelt contributed nine kills, four blocks, and three digs. Kenzi Staats provided 28 assists, two aces, and three digs. Collectively, the Blue Devils accumulated 13 aces, 34 kills, five blocks, 32 assists, and 56 digs.
Head coach Morgan Spitler commended her team’s resilience and their ability to regroup after losing the second set. “It was one of those ‘you had to be there’ moments,” Spitler said. “From the very first serve, these girls brought unmatched energy. Watching them battle through adversity and stay composed was a proud moment.”
Danville (1-0) is scheduled to play its next match against Loudonville on Tuesday, August 25.
