Danville’s varsity volleyball team secured a victory against Mount Gilead with a 3-1 win on Tuesday night.
The match featured notable leadership and serving performances. According to the match statistics, the Lady Blue Devils recorded 56 kills, 21 aces, 79 digs, and 51 assists. Erin Crider led the attack with 14 kills, four aces, and 12 digs. Emma Payne made a significant contribution by serving 27 times and generating 20 points, including six aces. Payne’s serves consistently pressured Mount Gilead, aiding Danville in maintaining momentum throughout the match.
Captain Kayley Sheldon played a crucial role in defense with 19 digs, four assists, and two aces. Sheldon effectively directed her teammates across the court, positioning players strategically as a leader and libero. Her guidance was instrumental in helping the team respond to challenges and remain composed during critical moments.
Coach Morgan Spitler commended the team’s resilience and cohesion. “Even when we faced challenges, not a single head dropped. The girls stayed locked in and fought not just for the win but for each other,” she said.
